Its hilarious to me how many customers reverted back to iced coffee today with the slight rise in temperature. But then again, I’m also guilty of it.
Its just so delish!

Valentine’s Day
This year we had to celebrate Valentines Day on February 13. Joe had work on Monday, and sometimes he doesn’t get home until 10 p.m. I’d hate to be one of those people who says they ‘don’t really care’ about this day, because I do. I just don’t like to make a big deal of it. This year we used the holiday as an excuse to sleep in, exchange cute cards, drink a lot of wine, and make a fancy lasagna dinner. All in all, a good day.
We agreed on ‘no presents, just a nice meal,’ but of course Joe had to get me something (I’m not really complaining, it was very thoughtful and perfect). He also gets major points for picking out a sweet handmade card from my favorite stationary store, Lion in the Sun. I get butterflies thinking about him walking in there to pick out a card. I also got his card there – Classic Love Songs jukebox style!
This is the sauce cooking. Pork neck bones, veal, beef, sausage, Italian tomatoes, onions, garlic, love. The smell was godly. The cheese was shredded FRESH mozz, ricotta, fresh parm, and all fresh herbs.. google Michael Symon’s recipe .. 🙂
Superbowl Sunday
I’m not going to pretend I enjoy watching Football. Because, I don’t. I tried to like it for years. Just couldn’t get it down to actually “follow” a game. Also, there is something that just irks the hell outta me about a girl slamming down a mug of beer and yelling at the TV in public. I guess working in bars for too long has made me jaded to the female sports fan, girl- you’re annoying. That being said, I absolutely DO enjoy the Superbowl. It’s exciting and there are normally parties involved with hot wings and commercials, half time show, and team spirit. This year we headed into Manhattan for a lil shin’dig. Our friend Matt was taking care of his Uncle’s penthouse apartment in the Financial District. I can’t really tell you what happened during the game. The beautifulness of the apartment had me distracted! I do know that Fergie scared me during halftime, I loved the Eminem commercial and that episode of Glee was way too much. It’s probably because I’ve never watched Glee with another human being.. I get pretty into it. Its embarrassing. The rooftop was fun, even though snow covered. Views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the gap in space where the WTC used to be. We got silly and had a fun time. Catch me during the World Series, I’m a quiet baseball fan.
Point Pleasant, NJ
this night i earned the most money during my career at frankies.
i hung out with joe afterward. we drank scotch, ate buffalo chicken fingers i brought home and took a dip in the pool. love summer in point pleasant.
Getting in the spirit ..
I’m sitting on my pink couch, amongst my beautiful Christmas tree and twinkling purple lights over the doorway. I’m finishing something my Nana started knitting fifteen years ago, listening to a lady sing beautiful french words. A sweet kitten is purring beside me and I’m wrapped in a down blanket. My boyfriend is on his way home to take me out on for an Austrian meal to celebrate the first time we ever exchanged a very special “i love you.” It just started snowing and there is a meteor shower tonight. Life is good.
Asheville, NC
Our bags are (almost) packed, we’re ready to go. Joe and I are taking a road trip down to Asheville, NC. My brother lives there AND I hear its beautiful, so needless to say- I’m excited. Trying to remember to bring everything I would usually forget, I know I will still somehow leave something at home. First stop- Mom’s to drop off Pippen. Second- Dad’s to drop off Stinky. Then.. we’re off. So psyched! Please pray that my little car makes it there and back safely.
Our Rom-Com Day
We had a ridiculously perfect day a few Sundays ago. Let me break it down.
- Woke up, munched on banana nut muffins I made the day before
- Caught up on ‘Bored to Death’ from week before
- Took a walk to get coffee
- Headed to Barnes & Noble on 7th ave and picked out so many books my arms hurt. Sat in cafe and read together for an hour. We had $30 gift card from Joe’s Granny for Halloween gift so we got Charles Bukowski “Hollywood” and a three pack of Moleskin pocket pads
- Took long way home and strolled through Prospect Park
- Decided to take a Yoga class together at the YMCA (then, took it.)
- “Shot around” on the basketball courts, Joe taught me a thing or two about how to actually play basketball (I’m pretty good!) Joe played a quick game with some guys who were admiring his skills and I ran a mile around the track.
- Came home, cooked what turned out to be a yummy dinner of what I like to call “cubbard guts”- translation- whatever you have left in cubbard or fridge that isn’t rotten or totally random.
- After dinner, we cuddled on couch and watched “She’s Out of My League”
Such a fun, relaxing day together. We needed it bad considering most weekends we either have visitors or the weather is lousy. Also, we only spent $5 of our own dollars!
walking down 7th ave 🙂
Jalopy Theatre
we recently checked out some legit pickin’ at the jalopy theatre.
it’s in red hook, an inexpensive date, a good time.
Manhattan Bound F Train
I am so happy that the F rises out from underground for a few stops. It’s such a nice little break of darkness and you are also able to use your cell phone for about 3 whole minutes! Joe and I have a ritual where whenever he is coming home from work he will text me at the stop before the train goes back underground. I know to be expecting him within 10 minutes when I get a “4 and 9” text.
Related… i just went through about 5 diff bags, found all these cards.. liz left some behind for me from her past visits. did you know the teller can combine several metro cards? it’s always good in a pinch. Maybe I can make a piece of art out of these … hmmm.
Joe gets a haircut.
Joe getting his hair chopped at the Russian barber in our neighborhood.
Why is there just something so tragic about the first day a boy gets their hair cut? It’s like they are seven year olds all over again. (please note: this is the first cell phone picture I took with my new Black Berry!.. upgrade ya life!)
